UGG Australia (UGG Boots) have been increasing in popularity in the last few years. Not surprisingly, there have been plenty of celebrities seen sporting the sheepskin footwear. The list includes the likes of Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore, Keanu Reeves, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Pamela Anderson, Minnie Driver, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Julia Roberts.
UGG was inspired by Brian Smith in 1978 when he took a trip to California with a bag of sheepskin boots. UGG Australia started to take shape and was later acquired by Deckers Outdoor Corporation in 1995. By 1998, the line included boots, slippers, and casuals. That year, the brand was repositioned as a high-end luxury footwear brand. When Oprah received a pair two years later she loved them so much that she bought 350 pair for her entire staff! Uggs went on to hit the "Oprah's Favorite Things" list, and even made "Brand of the Year," and were responsible for the creation of an entirely new category of footwear.
